Conversion of Cornelius
1 There was a certain man in Cæsarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band ,
Palikuwa na mtu Kaisaria, jina lake Kornelio, akida wa kikosi kilichoitwa Kiitalia,
2 a devout man , and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
mtu mtauwa, mchaji wa Mungu, yeye na nyumba yake yote, naye alikuwa akiwapa watu sadaka nyingi, na kumwomba Mungu daima.
3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
Akaona katika maono waziwazi, kama saa tisa ya mchana, malaika wa Mungu, akimjia na kumwambia, Kornelio!
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
Akamtazama sana, akaogopa akasema, Kuna nini, Bwana? Akamwambia, Sala zako na sadaka zako zimefika juu na kuwa ukumbusho mbele za Mungu.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
Sasa basi, peleka watu Yafa, ukamwite Simoni, aitwaye Petro.
6 he lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
Yeye ni mgeni wa mtu mmoja, jina lake Simoni, mtengenezaji wa ngozi, ambaye nyumba yake iko pwani, atakuambia yakupasayo kutenda.
7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
Na yule malaika aliyesema naye akiisha kuondoka, Kornelio akawaita wawili katika watumishi wake wa nyumbani, na askari mmoja, mtu mtauwa katika wale waliomhudumia daima;
8 and when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
na alipokwisha kuwaeleza mambo yote akawatuma kwenda Yafa.
9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
Hata siku ya pili, walipokuwa wakisafiri na kuukaribia mji, Petro alipanda juu darini, kwenda kuomba, yapata saa sita ya mchana;
10 and he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
akaumwa na njaa sana, akataka kula; lakini walipokuwa wakiandaa, roho yake ikazimia,
11 and saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
akaona mbingu zimefunuka, na chombo kikishuka kama nguo kubwa, inatelemshwa kwa pembe zake nne hata nchi;
12 wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
ambayo ndani yake walikuwamo aina zote za wanyama wenye miguu minne, na hao watambaao, na ndege wa angani.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
Kisha sauti ikamjia, kusema, Ondoka, Petro, uchinje ule.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
Lakini Petro akasema, Hasha, Bwana, kwa maana sijakula kamwe kitu kilicho kichafu au najisi.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
Sauti ikamjia mara ya pili, ikimwambia, Vilivyotakaswa na Mungu, usiviite wewe najisi.
16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
Jambo hili likatendeka mara tatu; kisha kile chombo kikapokewa tena mbinguni.
17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
Hata Petro alipokuwa akiona shaka ndani ya nafsi yake, maana yake ni nini maono hayo aliyoyaona, wale watu waliotumwa na Kornelio, wakiisha kuiulizia nyumba ya Simoni, wakasimama mbele ya mlango,
18 and called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
wakaita; wakauliza kwamba Simoni aitwaye Petro anakaa humo.
19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
Na Petro alikuwa akiyafikiri yale maono. Roho akamwambia, Wako watu watatu wanakutafuta.
20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
Basi ondoka ushuke ufuatane nao, usione tashwishi, kwa maana ni mimi niliyewatuma.
21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
Petro akawashukia wale watu, akanena, Mimi ndiye mnayemtafuta. Mmekuja kwa sababu gani?
22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
Wakasema, Kornelio akida, mtu mwenye haki, mchaji wa Mungu, aliye na sifa njema kwa taifa lote la Wayahudi, alionywa na malaika mtakatifu kutuma watu kwako, uende nyumbani kwake, apate kusikiliza maneno kwako.
23 Then called he them in, and lodged them . And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
Akawakaribisha wawe wageni wake. Hata siku ya pili, Petro akaondoka akatoka pamoja nao, na baadhi ya ndugu waliokaa Yafa wakafuatana naye.
24 And the morrow after they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
Siku ya pili yake wakaingia Kaisaria. Na Kornelio alikuwa akiwangojea, hali amekusanya jamaa zake na rafiki zake.
25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him .
Petro alipokuwa akiingia Kornelio akatoka amlaki akamwangukia miguu, akamsujudia.
26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
Lakini Petro akamwinua, akasema, Simama, mimi nami ni mwanadamu.
27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
Na katika kusema naye akaingia ndani, akaona watu wengi wamekusanyika.
28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
Akawaambia, Ninyi mnajua ya kuwa si halali mtu aliye Myahudi ashikamane na mtu aliye wa taifa lingine wala kumwendea, lakini Mungu amenionya, nisimwite mtu awaye yote mchafu wala najisi.
29 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
Kwa sababu hiyo nalikuja nilipoitwa, nisikatae; basi nawauliza, ni neno gani mliloniitia?
30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
Kornelio akasema, Siku tatu zilizopita, katika saa ii hii, yaani saa tisa, nilikuwa nikisali nyumbani mwangu; nikamwona mtu amesimama mbele yangu, mwenye nguo zing'arazo,
31 and said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
akasema, Kornelio, kuomba kwako kumesikiwa, na sadaka zako zinakumbukwa mbele za Mungu.
32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
Basi, tuma watu kwenda Yafa, ukamwite Simoni aitwaye Petro, anakaa katika nyumba ya Simoni, mtengenezaji wa ngozi, karibu na pwani; naye akija atasema nawe.
33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
Mara nikatuma watu kwako, nawe umefanya vyema kuja. Basi sasa sisi sote tupo hapa mbele za Mungu, tupate kuyasikiliza maneno yote uliyoamriwa na Bwana.
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
Petro akafumbua kinywa chake, akasema, Hakika natambua ya kuwa Mungu hana upendeleo;
35 but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
bali katika kila taifa mtu amchaye na kutenda haki hukubaliwa na yeye.
36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
Neno lile alilowapelekea wana wa Israeli akihubiri habari njema ya amani kwa Yesu Kristo (ndiye Bwana wa wote),
37 that word, I say , ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
jambo lile ninyi mmelijua, lililoenea katika Uyahudi wote likianzia Galilaya, baada ya ubatizo aliouhubiri Yohana;
38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
habari za Yesu wa Nazareti, jinsi Mungu alivyomtia mafuta kwa Roho Mtakatifu na nguvu naye akazunguka huko na huko, akitenda kazi njema na kuponya wote walioonewa na Ibilisi; kwa maana Mungu alikuwa pamoja naye.
39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
Nasi tu mashahidi wa mambo yote aliyoyatenda katika nchi ya Wayahudi na katika Yerusalemu; ambaye walimwua wakamtundika mtini.
40 him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
Huyo Mungu alimfufua siku ya tatu, akamjalia kudhihirika,
41 not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
si kwa watu wote, bali kwa mashahidi waliokuwa wamekwisha kuchaguliwa na Mungu, ndio sisi, tuliokula na kunywa pamoja naye baada ya kufufuka kwake kutoka kwa wafu.
42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
Akatuagiza tuwahubiri watu na kushuhudia ya kuwa huyu ndiye aliyeamriwa na Mungu awe Mhukumu wa walio hai na wafu.
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Huyo manabii wote humshuhudia, ya kwamba kwa jina lake kila amwaminiye atapata ondoleo la dhambi.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Petro alipokuwa akisema maneno hayo Roho Mtakatifu akawashukia wote waliolisikia lile neno.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Na wale waliotahiriwa, walioamini, wakashangaa, watu wote waliokuja pamoja na Petro, kwa sababu Mataifa nao wamemwagiwa kipawa cha Roho Mtakatifu.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Kwa maana waliwasikia wakisema kwa lugha, na kumwadhimisha Mungu. Ndipo Petro akajibu,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Ni nani awezaye kuzuia maji, hawa wasibatizwe, watu waliopokea Roho Mtakatifu vile vile kama sisi?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Akaamuru wabatizwe kwa Jina lake Yesu Kristo. Ndipo wakamsihi azidi kukaa siku kadha wa kadha.
