Abijah's Reign
1 Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.
Katika mwaka wa kumi na nane wa mfalme Yeroboamu, akaanza Abiya kutawala juu ya Yuda.
2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
Miaka mitatu akatawala huko Yerusalemu; na jina la mamaye aliitwa Maaka binti Urieli wa Gibea. Kulikuwa na vita kati ya Abiya na Yeroboamu.
3 And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.
Abiya akapanga vita mwenye jeshi la watu hodari wa vita, watu wateule mia nne elfu; naye Yeroboamu akapanga vita juu yake mwenye watu wateule mia nane elfu, waliokuwa waume mashujaa.
4 And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;
Basi Abiya akasimama juu ya kilima cha Semaraimu, kilichoko milimani mwa Efraimu, akasema, Nisikieni, enyi Yeroboamu na Israeli wote;
5 ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
je! Haikuwapasa kujua ya kwamba Bwana, Mungu wa Israeli, alimpa Daudi ufalme juu ya Israeli milele, yeye na wanawe kwa agano la chumvi?
6 Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.
Lakini Yeroboamu mwana wa Nebati, mtumwa wa Sulemani mwana wa Daudi, akainuka, akamfanyia fitina bwana wake.
7 And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.
Wakamkusanyikia watu mabaradhuli, wasiofaa kitu, waliojitia nguvu juu ya Rehoboamu mwana wa Sulemani, Rehoboamu alipokuwa kijana na wa moyo mwororo, asiweze kuwazuia.
8 And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.
Hata sasa mwajidhania kuwa mtauzuia ufalme wa Bwana mikononi mwa wana wa Daudi; nanyi mmekuwa jamii kubwa, na kwenu mna ndama za dhahabu alizowafanyia Yeroboamu kuwa miungu.
9 Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
Je! Hamkuwafukuza makuhani wa Bwana, wana wa Haruni, na Walawi; mkajifanyia makuhani kama wafanyavyo watu wa nchi nyingine? Hata ye yote ajaye kujifanya wakfu na ndama, na kondoo waume saba, aweza kuwa kuhani wa hiyo isiyo miungu.
10 But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
Lakini sisi, Bwana ndiye Mungu wetu, wala sisi hatukumwacha; tena tunao makuhani wanaomtumikia Bwana, wana wa Haruni, na Walawi, kwa kazi yao;
11 and they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have forsaken him.
nao humtolea Bwana kila asubuhi, na kila jioni, sadaka za kuteketezwa na fukizo la manukato; mikate ya wonyesho pia huiweka kwa taratibu yake juu ya meza takatifu, na kinara cha dhahabu chenye taa zake, kuwaka kila jioni; kwa maana sisi twayalinda malinzi ya Bwana, Mungu wetu; bali ninyi mmemwacha.
12 And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.
Na tazama, Mungu yu pamoja nasi atutangulie, na makuhani wake wenye mapanda, ili wapige sauti ya kugutusha juu yenu. Enyi wana wa Israeli, msipigane na Bwana, Mungu wa baba zenu; kwani hamtafanikiwa.
13 But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.
Lakini Yeroboamu aliwazungushia waviziao kwa nyuma; basi wao wakawa mbele ya Yuda, na wale waviziao nyuma yao.
14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
Na Yuda walipotazama nyuma, angalia, vita vikawa mbele na nyuma; wakamlilia Bwana, na makuhani wakapiga mapanda.
15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
Ndipo wakapiga kelele watu wa Yuda; ikawa, watu na Yuda walipopiga kelele, Mungu akampiga Yeroboamu na Israeli wote mbele ya Abiya na Yuda.
16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.
Wana wa Israeli wakakimbia mbele ya Yuda; naye Mungu akawaua mikononi mwao.
17 And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
Abiya na watu wake wakawapiga mapigo makuu; hata wakaanguka wameuawa wa Israeli mia tano elfu, watu wateule.
18 Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.
Ndivyo walivyotiishwa wana wa Israeli wakati ule, wakashinda wana wa Yuda, kwa kuwa walimtegemea Bwana, Mungu wa baba zao.
19 And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof.
Abiya akamfuata Yeroboamu, akamnyang'anya miji, Betheli na miji yake, na Yeshana na miji yake, na Efroni na miji yake.
20 Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the LORD struck him, and he died.
Wala Yeroboamu hakupata nguvu tena siku za Abiya; kisha Bwana akampiga, akafa.
21 But Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
Ila Abiya akapata nguvu, akaoa wake kumi na wanne, akazaa wana ishirini na wawili, na binti kumi na sita.
22 And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.
Na mambo ya Abiya yaliyosalia, na njia zake, na maneno yake, yameandikwa katika kitabu cha maelezo cha nabii Ido.
