The Crucifixion
1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him .
Basi ndipo Pilato alipomtwaa Yesu, akampiga mijeledi.
2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
Nao askari wakasokota taji ya miiba, wakamtia kichwani, wakamvika vazi la zambarau.
3 and said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
Wakawa wakimwendea, wakisema, Salamu! Mfalme wa Wayahudi! Wakampiga makofi.
4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.
Kisha Pilato akatokea tena nje, akawaambia, Mtu huyu namleta nje kwenu, mpate kufahamu ya kuwa mimi sioni hatia yo yote kwake.
5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!
Ndipo Yesu alipotoka nje, naye amevaa ile taji ya miiba, na lile vazi la zambarau. Pilato akawaambia, Tazama, mtu huyu!
6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him , crucify him . Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him : for I find no fault in him.
Basi wale wakuu wa makuhani na watumishi wao walipomwona, walipiga kelele wakisema, Msulibishe! Msulibishe! Pilato akawaambia, Mtwaeni ninyi basi, mkamsulibishe; kwa maana mimi sioni hatia kwake.
7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
Wayahudi wakamjibu, Sisi tunayo sheria, na kwa sheria hiyo amestahili kufa, kwa sababu alijifanya kuwa Mwana wa Mungu.
8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
Basi Pilato aliposikia neno hilo, akazidi kuogopa.
9 and went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
Akaingia tena ndani ya ile Praitorio, akamwambia Yesu, Wewe umetokapi? Lakini Yesu hakumpa jibu lo lote.
10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
Basi Pilato akamwambia, Husemi nami? Hujui ya kuwa mimi nina mamlaka ya kukufungua, nami nina mamlaka ya kukusulibisha?
11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
Yesu akamjibu, Wewe hungekuwa na mamlaka yo yote juu yangu, kama usingepewa kutoka juu; kwa hiyo yeye aliyenitia mikononi mwako yuna dhambi iliyo kubwa zaidi.
12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Cæsar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Cæsar.
Na tangu hapo Pilato akatafuta kumfungua; lakini Wayahudi wakapiga makelele wakisema, Ukimfungua huyu, wewe si rafiki yake Kaisari; kila mtu ajifanyaye kuwa mfalme humfitini Kaisari.
13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
Basi Pilato, aliposikia maneno hayo, akamleta Yesu nje, akaketi juu ya kiti cha hukumu, mahali paitwapo Sakafu ya Mawe, au kwa Kiebrania, Gabatha.
14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
Nayo ilikuwa Maandalio ya pasaka, yapata saa sita. Akawaambia Wayahudi, Tazama, Mfalme wenu!
15 But they cried out, Away with him , away with him , crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cæsar.
Basi wale wakapiga kelele, Mwondoshe! Mwondoshe! Msulibishe! Pilato akawaambia, Je! Nimsulibishe mfalme wenu! Wakuu wa makuhani wakamjibu, Sisi hatuna mfalme ila Kaisari.
16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified.
And they took Jesus, and led him away.
Basi ndipo alipomtia mikononi mwao ili asulibiwe; nao wakampokea Yesu.
17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
Akatoka, hali akijichukulia msalaba wake, mpaka mahali paitwapo Fuvu la Kichwa, au kwa Kiebrania, Golgotha.
18 where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
Wakamsulibisha huko, na wengine wawili pamoja naye, mmoja huku na mmoja huku, na Yesu katikati.
19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Naye Pilato akaandika anwani, akaiweka juu ya msalaba, imeandikwa, YESU MNAZARETI, MFALME WA WAYAHUDI.
20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
Basi anwani hiyo waliisoma wengi katika Wayahudi; maana mahali pale aliposulibiwa Yesu palikuwa karibu na mji; nayo iliandikwa kwa Kiebrania, na Kirumi, na Kiyunani.
21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
Basi wakuu wa makuhani na Wayahudi wakamwambia Pilato, Usiandike, Mfalme wa Wayahudi; bali ya kwamba yule alisema, Mimi ni mfalme wa Wayahudi.
22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
Pilato akajibu, Niliyoandika nimeyaandika.
23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
Nao askari walipomsulibisha Yesu, waliyatwaa mavazi yake, wakafanya mafungu manne, kwa kila askari fungu lake; na kanzu nayo. Basi kanzu ile haikushonwa, ilikuwa imefumwa yote pia tangu juu.
24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
Basi wakaambiana, Tusiipasue, lakini tuipigie kura, iwe ya nani. Ili litimie andiko lile linenalo, Waligawanya nguo zangu, Na vazi langu wakalipigia kura. Basi ndivyo walivyofanya wale askari.
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
Na penye msalaba wake Yesu walikuwa wamesimama mamaye, na umbu la mamaye, Mariamu wa Klopa, na Mariamu Magdalene.
26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
Basi Yesu alipomwona mama yake, na yule mwanafunzi aliyempenda amesimama karibu, alimwambia mama yake, Mama, tazama, mwanao.
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home .
Kisha akamwambia yule mwanafunzi, Tazama, mama yako. Na tangu saa ile mwanafunzi yule akamchukua nyumbani kwake.
28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
Baada ya hayo Yesu, hali akijua ya kuwa yote yamekwisha kumalizika ili andiko litimizwe, akasema, Naona kiu.
29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
Kulikuwako huko chombo kimejaa siki; basi wakatia sifongo iliyojaa siki juu ya ufito wa hisopo, wakampelekea kinywani.
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Basi Yesu alipokwisha kuipokea ile siki, alisema, Imekwisha. Akainama kichwa, akaisalimu roho yake.
31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
Basi Wayahudi, kwa sababu ni Maandalio, miili isikae juu ya misalaba siku ya sabato, (maana sabato ile ilikuwa siku kubwa), walimwomba Pilato miguu yao ivunjwe, wakaondolewe.
32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
Basi askari wakaenda, wakamvunja miguu wa kwanza, na wa pili, aliyesulibiwa pamoja naye.
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
Lakini walipomjia Yesu na kuona ya kuwa amekwisha kufa, hawakumvunja miguu;
34 but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
lakini askari mmojawapo alimchoma ubavu kwa mkuki; na mara ikatoka damu na maji.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
Naye aliyeona ameshuhudia, na ushuhuda wake ni kweli; naye anajua ya kuwa anasema kweli ili ninyi nanyi mpate kusadiki.
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
Kwa maana hayo yalitukia ili andiko litimie, Hapana mfupa wake utakaovunjwa.
37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
Na tena andiko lingine lanena, Watamtazama yeye waliyemchoma.
38 And after this Joseph of Arimathæa, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
Hata baada ya hayo Yusufu wa Arimathaya, naye ni mwanafunzi wa Yesu, (lakini kwa siri, kwa hofu ya Wayahudi), alimwomba Pilato ruhusa ili auondoe mwili wake Yesu. Na Pilato akampa ruhusa. Basi akaenda, akauondoa mwili wake.
39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight .
Akaenda Nikodemo naye, (yule aliyemwendea usiku hapo kwanza), akaleta machanganyiko ya manemane na uudi, yapata ratli mia.
40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
Basi wakautwaa mwili wake Yesu, wakaufunga sanda ya kitani pamoja na yale manukato, kama ilivyo desturi ya Wayahudi katika kuzika.
41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
Na pale pale aliposulibiwa palikuwa na bustani; na ndani ya bustani mna kaburi jipya, ambalo hajatiwa bado mtu ye yote ndani yake.
42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day ; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
Humo basi, kwa sababu ya Maandalio ya Wayahudi, wakamweka Yesu; maana lile kaburi lilikuwa karibu.
