The Betrayal
1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
Alipokwisha kusema hayo, Yesu alitoka pamoja na wanafunzi wake kwenda ng'ambo ya kijito Kedroni, palipokuwapo bustani; akaingia yeye na wanafunzi wake.
2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
Naye Yuda, yule aliyetaka kumsaliti, alipajua mahali pale; kwa sababu Yesu alikuwa akienda huko mara nyingi pamoja na wanafunzi wake.
3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
Basi Yuda, akiisha kupokea kikosi cha askari na watumishi waliotoka kwa wakuu wa makuhani na Mafarisayo, akaenda huko na taa na mienge na silaha.
4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
Basi Yesu, hali akijua yote yatakayompata, akatokea, akawaambia, Ni nani mnayemtafuta?
5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he . And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
Wao wakamjibu, Ni Yesu Mnazareti. Yesu akawaambia, Ni mimi. Yuda naye aliyemsaliti alikuwa amesimama pamoja nao.
6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he , they went backward, and fell to the ground.
Basi alipowaambia, Ni mimi, walirudi nyuma, wakaanguka chini.
7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
Basi akawauliza tena, Mnamtafuta nani? Wakasema, Yesu Mnazareti.
8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he : if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
Yesu akajibu, Nimekwisha kuwaambieni ya kwamba ni mimi; basi ikiwa mnanitafuta mimi, waacheni hawa waende zao.
9 that the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
Ili litimizwe lile neno alilolisema, Wale ulionipa sikumpoteza hata mmoja wao.
10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
Basi Simoni Petro alikuwa na upanga, akaufuta, akampiga mtumwa wa Kuhani Mkuu, akamkata sikio la kuume. Na yule mtumwa jina lake ni Malko.
11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
Basi Yesu akamwambia Petro, Rudisha upanga alani mwake; je! Kikombe alichonipa Baba, mimi nisikinywee?
12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
Basi wale askari na yule jemadari na wale watumishi wa Wayahudi walimkamata Yesu, wakamfunga.
13 and led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
Wakamchukua kwa Anasi kwanza; maana alikuwa mkwewe Kayafa, yule aliyekuwa Kuhani Mkuu mwaka ule.
14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
Naye Kayafa ndiye yule aliyewapa Wayahudi lile shauri ya kwamba yafaa mtu mmoja afe kwa ajili ya watu.
15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
Wakamfuata Yesu, Petro na mwanafunzi mwingine. Na mwanafunzi huyo alikuwa amejulikana na Kuhani Mkuu, akaingia pamoja na Yesu katika behewa ya Kuhani Mkuu.
16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
Lakini Petro akasimama nje mlangoni. Basi yule mwanafunzi mwingine aliyejulikana na Kuhani Mkuu akatoka, akasema na mngoja mlango, akamleta Petro ndani.
17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not.
Basi yule kijakazi, aliyekuwa mngoja mlango, akamwambia Petro, Wewe nawe, je! Hu mwanafunzi mmojawapo wa mtu huyu? Naye akasema, Si mimi.
18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
Na wale watumwa na watumishi walikuwa wakisimama, wamefanya moto wa makaa; maana ilikuwa baridi; wakawa wakikota moto. Petro naye alikuwapo pamoja nao, anakota moto.
19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
Basi Kuhani Mkuu akamwuliza Yesu habari za wanafunzi wake, na habari za mafundisho yake.
20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
Yesu akamjibu, Mimi nimesema na ulimwengu waziwazi; sikuzote nalifundisha katika sinagogi na katika hekalu, wakusanyikapo Wayahudi wote; wala kwa siri mimi sikusema neno lo lote.
21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
Ya nini kuniuliza mimi? Waulize wale waliosikia ni nini niliyowaambia; wao wanajua niliyoyanena.
22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
Basi aliposema hayo, mtumishi mmojawapo aliyesimama karibu alimpiga Yesu kofi akisema, Wamjibu hivi Kuhani Mkuu?
23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
Yesu akamjibu, Kama nimesema vibaya, ushuhudie ule ubaya; bali kama nimesema vema, wanipigia nini?
24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
Basi Anasi akampeleka hali amefungwa kwa Kayafa, Kuhani Mkuu.
25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it , and said, I am not.
Na Simoni Petro alikuwa akisimama huko, anakota moto. Basi wakamwambia, Wewe nawe, je! Hu mwanafunzi wake mmojawapo? Naye akakana, akasema, Si mimi.
26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
Mtumwa mmojawapo wa Kuhani Mkuu, naye ni jamaa yake yule aliyekatwa sikio na Petro, akasema, Je! Mimi sikukuona wewe bustanini pamoja naye?
27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
Basi Petro akakana tena, na mara akawika jimbi.
The Trial
28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
Kisha wakamchukua Yesu kutoka kwa Kayafa mpaka Praitorio, nayo ikawa alfajiri; lakini wao wenyewe hawakuingia ndani ya ile praitorio, wasije wakanajisika, bali wapate kuila Pasaka.
29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
Basi Pilato akawatokea nje, akasema, Ni mashitaka gani mnayoleta juu ya mtu huyu?
30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
Wakajibu, wakamwambia, Kama huyu asingekuwa mtenda mabaya, tusingemleta kwako.
31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
Basi Pilato akawaambia, Haya! Mtwaeni ninyi, mkamhukumu kwa ile torati yenu! Wayahudi wakamwambia, Sisi hatuna ruhusa ya kuua mtu.
32 that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
Ili litimie lile neno lake Yesu alilolisema, akionyesha ni mauti gani atakayokufa.
33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
Basi Pilato akaingia tena ndani ya Praitorio, akamwita Yesu, akamwambia, Je! Wewe ni Mfalme wa Wayahudi?
34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
Yesu akamjibu, Wewe wasema hivi kwa nafsi yako, au watu wengine walikuambia habari zangu?
35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
Pilato akajibu, Ama! Ni Myahudi mimi! Taifa lako na wakuu wa makuhani ndio waliokuleta kwangu. Umefanya nini?
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Yesu akajibu, Ufalme wangu sio wa ulimwengu huu. Kama ufalme wangu ungekuwa wa ulimwengu huu, watumishi wangu wangenipigania, nisije nikatiwa mikononi mwa Wayahudi. Lakini ufalme wangu sio wa hapa.
37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
Basi Pilato akamwambia, Wewe u mfalme basi? Yesu akajibu, Wewe wasema, kwa kuwa mimi ni mfalme. Mimi nimezaliwa kwa ajili ya haya, na kwa ajili ya haya mimi nalikuja ulimwenguni, ili niishuhudie kweli. Kila aliye wa hiyo kweli hunisikia sauti yangu.
38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?
And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all .
Pilato akamwambia, Kweli ni nini? Naye akiisha kusema neno hilo akawatokea Wayahudi tena, akawaambia, Mimi sioni hatia yo yote kwake.
39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
Lakini kwenu kuna desturi ya mimi kuwafungulia mtu mmoja wakati wa Pasaka; basi, mwapenda niwafungulie Mfalme wa Wayahudi?
40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
Basi wakapiga kelele tena kusema, Si huyu, bali Baraba. Naye yule Baraba alikuwa mnyang'anyi.
